Raising Awareness on single use plastic pollution in Montenegro

ZELENI DOM - GREEN HOME

The organization Zeleni dom – Green Home aims to raise awareness within the Montenegrin hospitality industry about the harm caused by single use plastic items.

The initiative supported by BeMed tackles the problem at its root by working directly with representatives of the HoReCa sector’s waste management. Three activities have been implemented:

  • Awareness-raising and search for alternatives with the HoReCa sector.
  • Review of current legislation in Montenegro concerning single-use plastics and its application.
  • Awareness-raising among the general public.

Main results:

  • Participation in a consultative meeting at the Ministry of Ecology to present suggestions on the management of single-use plastic waste in the HoReCa sector and markets.
  • Contribution to the development of the action plan for the management of the Boka Kotorska coastal area, incorporating concrete actions to reduce plastic waste.
  • Preparation of a parallel report with Coalition 27 on waste management and the need to ban single-use plastics in Serbia.
  • Public awareness raising via media, infographics and social networks, with more than 30 print articles, 70 online announcements and 50 live interventions.
  • Development of social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) to disseminate recommendations and share experiences with relevant stakeholders.
