The “From river to the Sea – let’s be plastic free” initiative advocates synergy between private, public and NGO sector to reduce pressure of pollution of the Adriatic Sea with plastic waste from the Cetina River in Croatia. It builds on the Cetina River Canyon – plastic free zone project results especially the provisions of the Decision on limiting the use of plastic within the boundaries of the Significant Landscape Cetina River Canyon.
 
- Establishment of a volunteer eco-patrol to collect waste along a river.
- Organisation of educational programmes and working groups to provide training in responsible eco-diving and raise awareness among the local community.
- Collection of plastic waste through eco-diving, sorting, measuring and transporting it to the Peovika recycling centre.
- Collection of scientific data on the composition and quantity of waste, integrated into the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries database.
- Establishment of an official protocol on waste collection, involving local authorities.
- Establishment of annual continuity through a partnership ensuring the mobilisation of volunteers from May to November.
