The European Parliament has voted for a complete ban of a range of single-use plastics across the union in a bid to stop pollution of the oceans. This proposal calls for a reduction in single-use plastic for food and drink containers like plastic cups.

In regard to this measure the Beat Plastic Initiative aims to inform the public and private sector about the consequences of plastic and the opportunities to move to a zero single-use plastic era. This will be achieved using the following steps:

  • Informing about consequences of single-use plastics on the environment and the EU strategy.
  • Building a network of engaged stakeholders (public – private – educational institutions) to work on a single use plastic free strategy.
  • Developing a “zero-plastic” charter in collaboration with the network and help members to get certified.
  • Building an online interactive map to identify and list the Beat Plastic Members.
