The BeMed+ project is dedicated to supporting and implementing concrete actions to reduce plastic pollution, with a particular focus on southern and eastern Mediterranean countries. Our efforts are centered on two pilot regions: Albania and Tunisia.
As part of this initiative, we are conducting an extensive review of studies, scientific projects, and other actions already carried out on macro and microplastic pollution in these areas. To fill data gaps, we have implemented the Plastic Origins protocol from the Surfrider Foundation Europe to map plastic pollution in the Shkumbin River in Albania.
A key element of the BeMed+ project is working closely with local stakeholders to develop targeted action plans. These plans address critical sectors such as waste management, the HoReCa industry (hotels, restaurants, and cafés), and the sports sector, aiming to propose sustainable and impactful solutions to the plastic pollution crisis.
Through BeMed+, we aim to provide concrete and tailored responses to the environmental challenges facing the Mediterranean.
