The award ceremony for the winners of the contest “Responsible beach bar” officially closed the initiative led by the ATKI Project and Research Center, in the presence of the Cypriot Commissioner for the Environment, the Ambassadors of Spain and of the Netherlands, the Vice Council of the British High Commission, and the Mayor of Larnaca. The winner of the competition, which consisted of proposing a concrete action for sustainable tourism, has implemented in his establishment the use of straws made from pasta baked in the oven.
This day was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of this initiative with everyone involved. The initiative has indeed created a real dynamic within a network of bars and restaurants on the island of Cyprus that have worked hand in hand with local authorities, NGOs, and citizens to establish a guide of good practices for a sustainable tourism. Additionally, a consciousness-raising campaign included days spent cleaning the participative beaches
