Building on the experience of the pilot hotel project carried out at the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu, and currently underway at La Badira, the College is embarking on a new project, this time with and for the mass retail sector.
The supermarket sector is a major consumer of single-use plastics, both in sales to customers and in logistics circuits. This sector can be a lever for involving a large number of suppliers in a change in operating methods. In addition, the direct link between supermarkets and consumers can accelerate changes in purchasing habits and thus reduce the plastic footprint of households. The challenges ahead are as great as the project’s potential impact.
To dive deeper into the project, the workshop began with a visit to a Carrefour shop by members of the College. They were able to ask questions about the single-use plastics on the shelves and in the back of the shop, as well as the initiatives already in place by Carrefour, such as the “Bring your container” scheme, which allows customers to bring their own containers into the shop. The container is then filled by staff and the customer can leave with their salad, without any single-use plastic! But this tour of the shop also allowed us to look ahead and imagine future actions to be taken.
In order to channel these ideas, a co-construction workshop provided an opportunity to think together about the activities to be carried out to get consumers and staff on board, the products to be targeted and the timeframe for the project. All these elements are key to consolidating the skeleton of the project.
Stay tuned for the rest of the news!
