This initiative uses local networks to address plastic pollution by developing an action plan for waste management, the HoReCa sector, and sports. To understand the regional context, a review of existing studies on plastic pollution is being conducted. Surfrider Foundation Europe’s protocol for mapping river plastic pollution has been applied to the Shkumbin River, using kayaks and a mobile app to geolocate visible waste. Data collected from May 26 to 29, 2024, helps identify polluted areas and track changes in pollution over time.
