This project aims to significantly reduce the use of single-use plastics (SUP) and enhance the overall green transition capacity through initiating awareness campaigns, offering plastic alternative products, and leading environmental policy and advocacy action.
It will focus on expanding the pilot program of plastic-free sports events to a broader community. This will include a series of green running, skating, and cycling marathons, among others, in the context of (Running for COP29), resulting in a collective covered area of approximately 2,900 km which equals the distance between Alexandria and Baku, Azerbaijan where this year’s COP29 will be hosted.
The project will also aim to build the capacity of two youth centers in Alexandria in their plans for green transition, adopting eco-friendly and sustainable practices. It will also host 2 green skills boot camps for environmental leaders in four coastal Egyptian cities, empowering 50+ youths to launch grassroots environmental initiatives. As part of our ongoing community support, a bi-annual community gathering will take place to strengthen the network of 25+ activists and green entrepreneurs in Alexandria, facilitating the collaboration to reach a broader impact.
The initiative also plans to start a production line for recycled paper pens with seeds, enhancing the eco-store offerings. Finally, a green investment guide will be developed to provide financial and non-financial support for green entrepreneurs, highlighting government incentives and active green startups in Egypt.
