Phasing Out and Reducing SUPPs in Public Institutions

Phasing Out and Reducing SUPPs in Public Institutions

The project aims to reduce single-use plastic products (SUPPs) in institutions through a comprehensive strategy. It begins by developing an assessment tool to evaluate SUPP usage and establish a benchmark for tracking progress. Guidelines will be created to help procurement officers transition to eco-friendly alternatives, including eliminating plastic straws, replacing plastic bottles with tap water in glasses, and substituting single-use stirrers with metal spoons. These guidelines will include criteria for sustainable product selection to promote environmentally conscious procurement practices.

The project will compile successful case studies to provide practical strategies for SUPP reduction. A pilot institution will conduct a comprehensive inventory of SUPPs, set elimination targets, and publicly commit to sustainable practices. Implementation strategies will include facility modifications, waste separation initiatives, and promotion of sustainable alternatives through infographics and stickers. Training sessions will educate employees on proper waste disposal habits.

Comparative analyses against initial benchmarks will refine SUPP reduction strategies. The project will culminate in a conference to disseminate tools, share outcomes, and forge partnerships for sustainability and SUPP reduction in Montenegrin public institutions.
