Arts against Plastic. PlastigeHayir!!

The city of Edirne stands at the confluence of three rivers, whose waters and the plastics they transport flow into the Mediterranean Sea. The initiative proposed by “Plastige Hayir!!” originated in an art project at Trakya University’s Art School, and it aims to raise the students’ awareness of plastic pollution. The students created original, entertaining infographics allowing the project to reach a variety of audiences.

Main results of the project :

The broad aim of the initiative is to take action against plastic pollution in the city of Edirne. To achieve this objective, the association is in contact with the town hall, the rectorate, the university and local markets.

A number of initiatives have been put in place:

Creation of A3 information posters, freely downloadable from the website
Distribution of jute bags
Screening of the documentary ‘A plastic Ocean’ accompanied by an evening debate
Organisation of collection days to raise awareness of the problem of plastic pollution
Installation of fountains on the university campus and distribution of reusable water bottles
Installation of sculpture bins for recyclable plastics, in the shape of animals affected by pollution. The bins are accompanied by information panels.

The number of members of the association has grown considerably since the initiative was launched, from a few hundred to 4,200, 2,500 of whom are active.
