The concept of the initiative was born out of the desire to integrate concrete actions aimed at reducing plastic pollution in our daily lives.

Based on the observation that many stakeholders had the means to make a difference if they became aware of the issues at stake in plastic pollution, TERO Single Member PC offered access to information and advice on simple actions to integrate into daily life via a blog. Through the collaboration between a marine biologist and a blogger specializing in writing about everyday family life, the initiative aimed to inform families in a fun way about the problem of plastic pollution.

A storytelling approach was used to convey scientific information, and challenges were set for subscribers on the various topics covered (mermaid tears, origin of waste, recycling, reuse, etc.), with prizes to be won.

Main results of the project :

The first phase of the project consisted of raising awareness of plastic pollution via a blog, The Paper Boat. Seven themed articles were published, accompanied by small competitions on specific topics. For example, for the theme of microplastics (mermaid tears), a competition invited participants to create a unique flower with “mermaid tears” found on the beach. This competition attracted 194 participants and five winners received a sea creature-inspired backpack.

The second phase involved working with the municipality of Pavlos Malas to address the issue of plastic. A collaboration was initiated with the directors of the city’s nursery schools, with the aim of training teachers to integrate this theme into the school curriculum. Several interventions were carried out in partner classes.

Finally, a book summarizing the activities and issues has been published in Greek and English.
